Summertime

Hello!

What a wonderful week of sunshine and happiness! This past week was filled with BBQ and pool-time fun. Definitely made for a great start to what I hope will be a fun-filled summer.

Here are some summer tunes to get you in the mood:

Bryan Adams: Summer of 69

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince: Summertime

LFO: Summer Girls

I may not wear Abercrombie & Fitch as per request by LFO but I definitely cannot wait for the rest of this summer! Lots of fun ahead.

Victoria Day

What better way to celebrate a national holiday than with an 11 year old girl playing YYZ on a crazy rock organ:

I wasn't sure which video to post for this blog, until I remembered this one created especially for Mother's Day by the geniuses at SNL:

Graduation

Well the time has FINALLY come. In three days I will officially be done cegep round 2! Even though I graduated from Concordia two years ago, I'm an adult for real now because I have no plans to go back any time soon.

Here are some awesome, loosely themed graduation songs:

Vitamin C -> Graduation (Obviously number 1)

Kanye -> Homecoming

That ending song from Grease when everyone's happy

The internet offered many sappy, emotion and wonderful graduation songs but as I don't feel sad only a sense of relief I will leave you with these. Hopefully next year I don't Billy Madison and end up back in high school.  Fingers crossed!

Law and Order

After my last awkward humiliation post 3 weeks ago, I can't believe I almost forgot to blog again this week!

This week's episode of Community was a new level of awesome reminding me how much I loved Law & Order.
So, here are some random facts about Law & Order:

The distinctive typeface used for all titles, credits, and on-screen "scene change" cards, for "Law & Order" and all of its spin-offs, is named "Friz Quadrata." The typeface used for "Starring" and "Created By" in the opening credits, the lone exception, is Eurostile

The "thunk-thunk" sound effect used in between scenes was created by combining close to a dozen sounds, including that of a group of monks stamping on a floor. The sound is intended to be reminiscent of both a jurist's gavel, and a jail cell door slamming.

This awesome thing happened :

When the show began airing in re-runs on TNT, new digital technology was used to insert "product placements" (paid appearances of name-brand products) into the show. The easiest to spot is for Coca-Cola; any time you see a Coke can sitting on a desk, it has been added digitally.

Everyone has been on that show!

That's enough for now,
Diana

Here Comes the Rain Again

Hey Friends!

I hope you had a great weekend! My weekend involved shopping for new glasses and eating lots of food with great friends :) Waffles with fresh fruit? Yes. Steak on a charcoal grill? Also yes. But right now, all I want to do is curl up on the couch and listen to the rain fall - that is, NOT go outside in the rain. Thanks Weather for making it rain every day this week! That means I will likely have this song stuck in my head for the whole week:

Time to bust out those rain boots! Have an excellent week :)

Memories

Hello!

So last night, I'm not quite sure how it happened, but I took a little trip down memory lane via youtube.  Mostly looking at the different intros to the awesome shows that I used to watch as a kid.  I'd like to take that time to remind you guys of some of the best TV shows of our childhoods.

Take Part! I'm pretty sure this show has a direct influence on why I'm an early childhood educator.  This was one of my favourite shows EVER! Come home from a long day of boring school and make kick ass puppets of old margarine containers! Come on!

PJ Katie's Farm! This show was by no means a good show.  I think I watched it because I thought "Hey Katie kind of sounds like Kathy, maybe one day I could be a PJ".  It breaks my heart that YTV doesn't exist anymore and that my dreams of being a PJ can never be real.

LAMB-F-ING-CHOP'S PLAY ALONG! Not enough good things can be said about this show.  Not only did it occupy us all as children but it taught us things like "Betchas!" and "The Song that Never Ends" which gave us HOURS of torturing our parents.  Thank you Shari Lewis for hours of my childhood entertainment.

Have a good week, take a trip down memory lane cause it's more fun than doing school or work!

Diana

Soooo Diana forgot to blog and here is a "humiliation" post for her.  It's not so much humiliating as it is random facts.

Here is what happens when you google "Diana"

Wiki definition: In Roman mythologyDiana (lt. "heavenly" or "divine") was the goddess of the hunt and moon and birthing, being associated with wild animals and woodland, and having the power to talk to and control animals.

Coincidence that she has a whole bunch of birds and tries to get them to listen to her? I think not.

Here is what happens when you move on over to the images section.  Now I'll admit that this was not the first picture that came up (Princess Diana?, Diana Ross? Who cares!) but it is the most important Diana:

We all know and love this lovely "Lady Diana.

Finally here is what happens when you youtube "Diana"

A woman named Diana Garland will give you your horoscope for an entire year!

Alright ladies and gents, I'm out. Also I over used quotation marks a whole lot in this post so feel free to drink or dance every time I used them.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Hey Friends!

I have an announcement to make. It's a pretty big one. I'm not really supposed to tell anyone. Kathy's going to kill me if she finds out I blogged about this! But I must tell someone. So, Kathy went to Disney World in Florida a little while ago and she met a cute pirate actor. She said it was love at first "Ahoy!", but Diana and I were skeptical about the whole thing. We told her it was a bad idea to keep in contact with him and that this romance would surely end in shipwreck. But she didn't listen to us and couldn't help falling for his his eye patch and stick leg. Now for the big announcement: Kathy and Jack (the pirate) are sailing away together!! Their ship leaves in one month, and we have no idea how to convince her not to go :S

APRIL FOOLS! Bet you thought that was true. Got you real good, I'm sure :)

Happy April Fool's Day!

Baa Baa Black Sheep

Hello Everyone!

This week there was another food adventure at the casa de DaveMartin. Here is the thing about DaveMartin: it doesn't make sense how amazing they are at food adventures.  This week they prepared for us slow cooked lamb that we transformed into lamb wraps.  It was the most amazing lamb ever. Slow cooking=the best kind of cooking.

We devoured it so fast I didn't have any time to take pictures of the food when it was finished, but in the middle of the day this is the picture that I got in my inbox:

That picture got me through my day :)

Have a great week everyone!!

Vacation

So last week was my week off from work, and of course I pick the week before the record breaking heat we get this week!

I did however get a chance for a quick trip to Quebec City for a few days, where of course it was hailing out and freezing :) Still had fun in the cold and got some delicious foods, like duck poutine:

Have a great week,

We Will Rock You

Hey Friends!

Last night, we played a show at Petit Campus as part of a yearly Montreal music event called "Women of Rock". This charity event happens around Women's Day and features all-female and female-fronted bands from around the city. This year, money was raised for an organization called Women Aware. The group provides assistance to survivors, family and friends of women who have experienced domestic violence.

We had a great time at the show! The bands on the bill (Mad June, Cryptique, Ol' School Johnny and Triggered Response) were so diverse that it made for a really fun night. The bands ranged from electro to punk to hard rock. Not going to lie, we danced a whole lot! Good thing we're always wearing our dancing shoes.

Have a great week!

Sweetness

Hello!

Last night we played a super-awesome show with our friends The Koalas at (one of my favourite bars) Crobar.  It was a fundraiser show for two lovely ladies who are flying to Vegas really soon to run a half maraton to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.  Hopefully we were able to help them raise lots and lots of money for the cause!

This week marked my last full week of classes so to celebrate I brought red velvet cupcakes to school.  If I can say so myself, and I will, they were delicious.

Next week we are playing another benefit show at Petit Campus, so come check it out :)

Pedal pusher

So I did a little shopping the last few weeks and decided to fill in the last few spaces on my pedalboard.

I'm not giving an in-depth review, but here's what I got:

Definitely my fav of the three, hands down. Don't know why I went so long without a good overdrive pedal, but very happy I picked this one up! Just taking it out of the box, plugging it in and loving the way it sounds before even touching the settings - that won me over right away.

This is my third delay, already have a DD-20 and an MXR carbon copy and couldn't resist this one for some reason. Very different from the carbon copy, the AD-9 seems to add a little low end which is different - still trying to figure out where it fits in.

Tremolo is not a sound I think I'll use super often, so I went with a cheaper pedal here, but am pleasantly surprised with the quality. It's nice, small, well made metal casing, and it sounds great.

Sorry for the late blog

Have a great rest of the week,
Diana

Bring Me Your Love

Hello!

So, Dallas Green has a beautiful voice. We knew this before going to see him at his sold-out Metropolis show on Friday night, but we had forgotten how good he was! His set was a perfect hour and a half of glorious music from his three albums. About halfway through his set, Mr. Green's bandmates left him alone on stage for a few songs with only an acoustic guitar and harmonica. T'was most wonderful. Just writing about the show makes me want to see it all over again!

My favorite performances of the evening:

Have a great week :)

I Wanna Dance With Somebody

I had this whole blog-post ready about what I did this week and then I got home last night and found out that Whitney Huston died. One of my most vivid childhood memories is driving with my grandparents in their Cadillac and belting "I Will Always Love You" at the top of my lungs over and over and over again. Here is my little tribute to the woman who gave me many childhood memories as well as many adult memories (aka me thinking I know how to sing and dance when I'm out in public)

Honestly if you've ever been to a bar and this comes on you KNOW you flip out and dance like a fool.

This song also evokes that feeling.

Have a great week full of dancing and singing because I'm sure you'll  be hearing these songs all over this week.

Giant

I went to my first Superbowl party tonight, so I made some gingerbread cookies like the crazy old lady from Ace Ventura

As I was looking for a title song for my post, all I could think of was Giant by Matthew Good Band

Since we're on Can-rock from the 90s, I'm totally happy about this comeback:

Now if only these guys can get together!

Good night,

Michigan Left

Hello!

Last night, the girls and I checked out Arkells and The Darcys at Petit Campus. The room was full but we still had enough room to dance! This was our third time seeing Arkells and they were better than ever. We only caught a few songs from The Darcys, but what we heard sounded excellent. Check out some songs from Arkells and The Darcys below:

Don't Bleed Me - The Darcys:

They surprised us with this song as part of their encore:

A Whole New World

Hello!

I've been quite the busy lady since my last blog post. I went to Florida for a week and spent 4 days in Disney World. It was SO MUCH FUN. I haven't been to Disney since I was a kid and I didn't really remember much of it so it's like everything was brand new. Pretty cool. We spent the first four days doing absolutely nothing but relax and swim.
The ocean water was bloody freezing but we figured we went all the way to Florida, we were GOING IN THAT WATER!  Then we ran back to the condo where there was a heated pool and a hot-tub.  Much better.

When we were in Disney we managed to do all 4 parks in 4 days.  It was madness and by the end I wanted to cut off my own feet but it was so worth it.  We went at the best time too. There were no lines for ANYTHING so it was sweet.

Since then I've come home to cold, snowy winter in Montreal.  It's definitely been a tough transition from shorts and the beach but at least we are almost in February!

Have a great week :)

Song to the Siren

So I missed my last blog and had to face the awful picture my awesome bandmates posted...

I don't have anything exciting this week, so here are a bunch of songs I rediscovered listening to a mix CD I found in my car.

Fun fact, that song was written by this guy's dad:

Mamma Mia

Hey!

Hope you're all having a great weekend and keeping warm! Despite the icy Montreal roads, my mom and I ventured downtown yesterday to watch the musical "Mamma Mia" at Place des Arts. In case you aren't familiar with the musical, it tells the story of a girl in her twenties trying to find out who her father is. She reads her mother's diary looking for answers and narrows the search down to three men - all of whom she invites to her wedding. I won't say any more for fear of spoiling the story!

The best part of the musical? The fact that all the songs featured in it are ABBA SONGS! Who doesn't like a little "Dancing Queen" and "Take a Chance on Me" from time to time? I forgot how much I enjoyed ABBA until hearing the songs live :) Here are some songs featured in the musical that'll hopefully get you dancing!

Dancing Queen:

SOS:

Here's a song I wish they would have incorporated into the musical:

Anyway, if you have a chance to catch the show, I would recommend it! Have a great week!

The Good Ship Lollipop

The holiday week has come to an end and I can't breathe.  It's wonderful.  It was a week full of eating, drinking, sleeping, seeing friends and family and baking goodies for all events and people who would take them.

Here are some things that I am especially proud of this year:

Candy Cane Cheesecake                                  Red Velvet Balls covered in White Chocolate

Oreo Chocolate Balls

My cousin brought a giant cannoli to dinner!        My Christmas "Candy Cane" Nails

Finally, it is the start of a brand new year, and while I'm not one to make crazy resolutions, my goal for this year is to actually use all the amazing cookbooks I have (I tend to get lazy and use google, make a recipe and then it disappears forever).  I've started writing some of my own recipes and transposing recipes that I've made onto little cue cards for my own little collection of my favourite recipes.

Any crazy resolutions?

Have a great week :)
