Holiday Road!

Hello!

Yesterday Diana and I went on an "impulsive" road trip to vermont.  Vanessa's in Manhattan right now and we were a little jealous of the awesome shopping and cereal she's probably buying.  I say it was "impulsive" because Friday night we got together after some St. Jean festivities and did research of all the places in Burlington we wanted to go.  Mostly, we just wanted to eat at Olive Garden.  We hunted down their menu and pre-planned what we were going to eat!  Secondly, we just really wanted to find Tom Messner.  Anything that came after that would be a bonus.

Here is my STARTER salad at the Olive Garden (Diana got soup so this was really just for me):

After some deliciousness at the OG we went to a few of the malls.  Our most successful trip, of course, was to the grocery store Hannaford.  I think I bought 8 cake mixes amongst other things.  We were scared when coming back over the border that we would have to pay taxes so we just wore all the clothes we bought back home.  Here is the beautiful outfit Diana got to wear:

When we did get to the border and all we had to declare was our boxes of cake mix, cereal and that we went to Olive Garden the dude said "you must have a lot of free time".  You know what judgy pants? we do. and it was delicious.

We also went home and watched Jackass 3.5...BEST DAY EVER!

Coming Home

Hey There!

Hope everyone is doing well and had an excellent week! For me, this week was filled with concerts, plays and food! Living in Montreal is great :)

Last Friday, we shimmied on over to Crobar to witness Luther Higgs tear up the place with their glorious instrumental tunes. These guys are awesome and if you haven't heard them live yet, I'm not sure what you're waiting for. Sidenote: Diana and I decided to pick up some poutine from Belle Pro before LH's set even though neither of us was hungry... GREAT idea. I forgot how good poutine was. Gravy, cheese, fries...honestly though, what else do you need?

This Saturday, I went to see the play "8 Ways My Mother Was Conceived," written and performed by Montreal's Michaela Di Cesare. In the play, Michaela guides the audience through her family history in a quest to find out the real story behind her grandmother's miraculous pregnancy. Check out this article about the play, and check out the play itself! : http://www.montrealmirror.com/wp/2011/06/09/virgin-mother/. Food of the evening: pulled pork sandwiches from a restaurant called "La Porte" on St-Laurent Blvd, cooked in an enormous outdoor roaster. Delicious.

Conclusion: I'm so excited for the fun festivals and events going on in Montreal right now. I'm also excited that we're playing a show on Wednesday, June 22 at L'Esco (4467A St Denis) with Primitive Notion and Thick Blooded. Come check it out! 9pm, only $5.

p.s. This song is currently stuck in my head:

Goodnight, Friends!

Smoke On The Water

Hello!

Since yesterday afternoon all of the water where I live is contaminated so nobody in Dorval has been able to drink or use any water for food preparation. Someone told me we couldn't wash our hands or even shower but they were obviously liars since the memo from the city said we could. We just can't use the water to brush our teeth. Frankly, I was going to shower regardless so I'm thankful that showering and hand washing was given the "ok".

I'm blogging a little early because I'm quite excited about some purchases I made tonight. I went to an Epicure party at my friend's place (it's one of those home-demonstrator-type of parties but dedicated to spices, baking and cookware). A parent of a child I had in my class once upon a time got me a Tiramisu blend a few years ago from this company and I still have it and use it and it's so good! Tonight I bought a bunch of different dip mixes as well as a curry blend, a pumpkin spice blend, salsa blend and guacamole blend. What I'm stoked about is that all of what I bought are just dry spice blends so I can use them on a lot of different things and not just for making dips. I swear I should get free stuff for all my free advertising here!

I love cooking (obviously) and like everyone else I want to save money so this summer I plan to make many a meal Sunday nights that will last me through the week so that I don't have to buy lunches (and dinners when I'm home). The amount of money I can spend in ONE day only on food is ridiculous so if I can save money doing something I enjoy than I'll be a happy girl.

Just so this blog isn't only text, I'm going to add a few pictures of recipes that I can't wait to try when I get my new spices.

HOMEMADE SALSA
PUMPKIN PANCAKES
TURKEY/ONION BURGERS
VEGETARIAN LENTIL BURGERS

Time for me to go to bed now! Night night everyone!
